money infoThe UK public is going through the biggest siege since the Battle of Britain but this time instead of holding their gas masks to their chests, they are hanging on like grim death to their remote controls. Recent surveys have revealed that across the UK, the ever stoical public is aware of the sacrifices that need to be made on their part till a light emerges at the end of the tunnel. Until that light appears, they are making do with another one, the light that comes off of their television.

It has to be admitted that during that period when everyone in the British Isles convinced themselves that it was possible to live the life of Reilly, and eating out, continental holidays, fancy cars and all the rest of the trappings of wealth that the bank were supposed to be paying for, having a powerful flat screen television hooked up to one of the major suppliers of cable or satellite was just one of the ” things that you needed to have”

Whilst all the rest of the trappings of luxury have been set aside, the statistics showing that the UK public are not prepared to consider for a moment doing away with their right to watch the best TV programs. Results have shown that less than 15% of the typical UK families are prepared to cancel their subscriptions to cable or satellite TV. When compared to the more than forty percent have put a stop to eating out, and thirty percent have said goodbye to foreign holidays for the time being, then a clear picture of a siege around the television sets of Britain is emerging.

Just how long the UK public will need to see this siege out remains to be seen, but in the meantime drawing in the horns has never been more comfortable.
