Pension funds down 28% in a year

October 29th, 2008 by admin | 0 Comments | Filed in Daily News, Money Management

Investors and pension savers just can’t seem to get a break.

As chancellor, Gordon Brown presided over the removal of tax credits in pension funds…a move which eventually killed them and triggered the move from defined benefit to defined contribution pensions. That was bad enough…but then he was asleep at the switch as the housing bubble blew up after everyone pushed their retirement savings into that! He presided over the biggest expansion in credit in this country in history and told us that this was the solution to the business cycle.

How the hell did this donk get into the position he’s in today? Now….he’s telling us that the solution to a credit binge is…wait for it…a law that makes sure that bank’s have to lend more credit.

What’s wrong Gordon? Don’t you want anyone to have ANY money when they retire? Never has a chancellor been so profligate with the rewards for saving, to avoid being a burden on the state…never has a chancellor made it so risky to save for ones retirement. He’s wrecked our pensions…he’s wrecked the retirement plans of hundreds of thousands of baby boomers who were looking forward to a nice retirement and now he’s putting us all even further into debt to bail out the risk takers who lost their huge gambles. Am I the only one who wants to kick him square in the balls?

As the chancellor and the PM he has inflicted huge damage on the wealth and future financial security of the nation. Now, with the levers of the retail banking industry firmly in his grasp…we will have to wait and see what more damage he can do.

If an alien from outer space saw what Gordon Brown is doing and has done…the only logical conclusion they could come to is that Gordon has set out to systematically wreck the economy and the ability of many citizens to live with a decent standard of living in retirement.

For the life of me….if I was setting out to wreck the retirements of the baby boomers….it’s hard to see what I would do differently to what he has done…if that was his goal…he’s played a blinder!
