What are some good ways to invest money
Ive recently been inundated with the question “What are some good ways to invest money”.
There are many great places to have your money right now. Cash is obviously the best one…but even then there’s an issue with that. If you own British pounds, you have just lost about 20% of your purchasing power in the last 6 months when measured in some other currencies…so cash is good, but certain types of cash are better. The Swiss franc and the Japanese Yen should do well in the near future as safe haven investments.
For long term holdings to protect the value of your liquid assets, I like gold and silver a lot as the way to protect yourself from the hurricane that is blowing through the worlds financial markets right now. As well as those, farmland is thought by many to be a great long term investment. People are still going to need to eat food and this won’t change any time soon.
Farmland has some interesting characteristics. It can’t be stolen, it has intrinsic value, it produces decent rates of return and is an income producing asset, and it has a limited supply and is fundamental to human life on earth. The risk is relatively low as well as the standard deviation of annual rates of return on farmland are lower than the stock market (what isn’t these days!).
Stocks in really battered down economies like Japan are selling at unbelievable valuations right now. The average cost of the entire Nikkei index is lower than book value and there are sectors where the book value is below 0.5 times book value. In addition, you get a double pop as the yen is a great currency to hold during this turbulent time.
Any of the above answer the question “what are some good ways to invest money”
